Read our Review of The Book of Eli
(trying to get Eli to stay and join him) "Look, this is a civilized town, we don't eat humans. We don't see too many people from before, not anymore...You know it's funny, but as old as we are, people like you and me, we're the future."
- Carnegie,
The Book of Eli
(responding to his chief enforcer, Redridge, who questions his decision to pursue Eli for his Bible) "IT'S NOT A F*****G BOOK. It's a weapon. A weapon aimed right at the hearts and minds of the weak and the desperate. It will give us control of them. If we want to rule more than one small f*****g town, we have to have it. People will come from all over and do exactly what I tell them to do, it's the words from the book. It's happened before and it will happen again. All we need is that book."
- Carnegie,
The Book of Eli
(telling Carnegie the irony of his situation after being shot in the leg but recovering the book) "Your leg, I can smell it. You worked so hard for that book, you've sacrificed so much, so many men. You've been spared but now those people who were too scared to even say your name, they're downstairs tearing up the bar, did you know that? You have no one there to stop them. You're feverish. I can't imagine what it must feel like to have what you want so close yet it might as well be a million miles away."
- Claudia,
The Book of Eli
(offering a mouse some of the cat he shot earlier as he eats) "You hungry? You know you gotta come get it - don't play hard to get. You'll like it, it's good. There you go."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(after a hijacker pokes him) "Are you listening to me? Put that hand on me again and you won't get it back."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(as he watched a gang of bikers kill a man and woman on the road below he keeps repeating to himself) "Stay on the path, it's not your concern. Stay on the path."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(just before he is forced to defend himself from a gang of murders in a bar) "Cursed be the ground for our sake for thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for us. For out of the ground we are taken for the dust we are and to the dust we shall return."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(Solara (Mila Kunis) asks him to take her on the road with him) "The road is no place for you, it's much worse than you think. Goodbye Solara, it's been nice knowing you, I mean that."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(explaining to Solara why he is on his quest) "A voice told me to carry the book out west. It told me that a path would be laid out before me, that I'd be led to a place where the book would be safe. It told me that I'd be protected against anyone, anything. I've been walking ever since."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(after Solara tell him the he's been walking for over 30 years and did he ever think that he was lost) "No, I walk by faith, not by sight. It means that you know something even if you don't know something. It doesn't have to make sense, it's faith, it's faith. It's the flower of light in the field of darkness, it's giving me the strength to carry on, you understand? (Solara: 'Is that from your book?') No it's Johnny Cash, live from Folsom prison."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(confiding in Solara about protecting the Bible) "In all these years I've been carring it and reading it every day I got so caught up in keeping it safe that I forgot to live by what I learned form it. (Solara: 'What is that?') Do for others more than what you do for yourself, that's what I got from it anyway."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(praying after he completes his quest) "Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the conviction and the strength to complete the task you entrusted to me. Thank you for guiding me straight and true through the many obstacles in my path and for keeping me resolute when all around seemed lost. Thank you for your protection and the many signs along the way. Thank you for any good I may have done, I am so sorry about the bad. Thank you for the friend I've made and please watch over her as you did for me. Thank you for finally allowing me to rest. I'm so very tired but I go now to my rest and peace knowing that I have done right with my time on this Earth. I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith."
- Eli,
The Book of Eli
(Eli tells them to come out because one of the benefits of not having soap is that he can smell them) "I am impressed. This man smelled us from thirty feet away. What's that say about our hygiene?"
