Zack And Miri Make A Porno
I suppose that you would guess by the title that this is a movie about the making of an amateur porno film. The reason for this endeavor is desperation of the monetary kind. It is the day before Thanksgiving and Zack (Seth Rogen) and his best friend Miri (Elizabeth Banks), who are roommates, have their power and water turned off because they are way behind in their payments to the utility company. Not that there is no money available in their badly stretched budgets, but rather because they are pitiful money managers who would rather indulge themselves in sex toys and other frivolities. Though likable, Zack and Miri are like two teenagers who need someone to shake some sense into them. In order to raise some cash, they decide to produce a porn movie. Please do not attend this mess of a movie because you want to titillate your prurient interest. Sure, there are shots of T&A and one brief scene with full frontal male nudity, but nothing that would turn you on like the real thing!
The dialog seems to have been written by a 10th grader who quit school and finished his education is some alley. The “F” word is much overused (boy, is it) frequently as much as three times in a single sentence. That’s right, noun, verb and adjective all beginning with “F”. Okay, it’s a pet peeve of mine but surely the writers could find a more creative way to express themselves.
In the end, Zack and Miri manage to find themselves as a couple rather than best friends since grade school. This you figure would happen after the first minutes of viewing so no surprises here. I went to see this because I thought it was a comedy. Although there were comedic scenes throughout, I left feeling cheated and a little dirty and not because of the sex scenes but rather because of the pervasive foul language.
