Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
They’re back! Not only are they back but they brought some of their baddie buddies with them! I’m talking about the Transformers. This time out The Fallen (one of the thirteen original Decepticons) brings his hordes to Earth and resurrects Megatron from his watery grave in the Laurentian Abyss. They plan their revenge on the Earth and its human inhabitants.
It turns out that the Transformers and humans have a long history going back to 17,000 BC. These ancient machines were called the Dynasty of the Primes and they would travel the universe finding stars from which they would drain their energy to sustain their own existence. There was an agreement among them to spare all worlds where life existed. This is where the trouble started with a powerful Prime who wanted to betray his brothers and harvest the Sun. The Dynasty were unable to beat their errant brother and so sacrificed themselves in order to hide the Matrix of Leadership. The surviving Prime became known as the Fallen, the head of the Decepticons and the one responsible for turning Megatron.
So much for ancient history. Now the film brings us to the present day which is two years after the events which transpired in the first movie. Optimus Prime and his team of Autobots have joined forces with the military to protect the Earth. This alliance is known as NEST.
Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBoeuf) stumbles upon a piece of the Allspark and the knowledge is imprinted into his brain. The Fallen instructs Megatron to get Sam and the Allspark shard so that they may discover the location of the ancient Sun Harvestor.
All chaos breaks loose as the military (NEST) and the Autobots battle the forces of the Decepticons. Action, action and more action and just when you start to catch your breath there is still more action!
Sound confusing? Wait until you see the battles! I had a difficult time telling one robot from the other with all of the fast paced action. I managed to keep things fairly straight and had an enjoyable time.
I was happy to see all of the main human characters from the original movie return. Sam Witwicky (and his parents), Mikeala Banes (looking hotter than ever!), Major Lennox, Sgt. Epps and, of course where would we be without Agent Reggie Simmons? All contribute to make this movie feel familiar and comfortable.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Alice (Isabella Lucas). She seems to have lascivious intentions toward Sam and is not concerned whether or not he has a girlfriend (Mikaela). Perhaps she should be! Nuf said for now about these two since I don’t want to be a spoiler.
There is not much to distinguish this movie from its predecessor except that it is bigger and better. The action scenes are not too different either. None of that mattered to me because I was having too much fun once again!
