The Proposal

Another great movie to hit the theaters this summer! The rest of the audience and I had a great time seeing The Proposal! Sure, you knew where the plot was going and how it would end but who cares! All of the fun was getting there!

Sandra Bullock as Margaret Tate is a treat to watch. She is positively lovely on the big screen and her comedic timing is impeccable. She teams up with Ryan Reynolds (Andrew Paxton) perfectly. This movie was made even more enjoyable with the inclusion of Betty White as Grandma Annie (or Gammy). She practically steals the whole show and does steal every scene she appears in! The cast is nicely rounded out with Mary Steenburgen and Craig T. Nelson.

Margaret Tate is a no nonsense publishing executive with a demeanor that causes everyone to flee in panic whenever she appears. Andrew  Paxton is her assistant who is trying to make his way in the publishing industry.

One day, Margaret is told that she is going to be deported to Canada since she has failed to cooperate with U.S. Immigration. Faced with the prospect of losing her well paying position with Colden Books, she concocts a scheme to force Andrew to marry her thus becoming a citizen. In order to further convince immigration that they are serious about this pending marriage they agree to go to Alaska to visit Andrew’s family.

In the end, Margaret realizes the hurt she will cause if she goes ahead with this farce. Things are further complicated with the romantic feelings that are starting to develop as she and Andrew begin to get to know one another.

As in all good romantic comedies, things work out very well indeed for our loving couple. Things will also work out very nicely for  you if you decide to see this movie. Be prepared to laugh out loud and often during this sparkling comedy!
