The Haunting of Molly Hartley
OK, OK, our girl Molly has problems. She has lots of problems — almost as many as this movie has! You see, Molly (Haley Bennett) is seventeen going on eighteen and figures something monumental is going to befall her on her birthday. What could it be? Not something so heinous as a dreaded wrinkle! Let me guess since this is a movie whose theme we have all seen many times in the past. Do you remember Rosemary’s Baby or the Omen? That should give you a hint. I bet you guessed it! Yep, the Devil himself will get our Molly on her 18th birthday since good ole Mom and Dad made a deal with him. How original!
Molly’s mom (bless her soul) tries to kill her daughter and winds up in the loony bin. Molly, however, keeps seeing her and hearing weird sounds. Is she following in her Mom’s footsteps and going insane herself or is there something more sinister afoot?
Spoiler alert — do not read any further if you intend to see this film. If you like happy endings, you may enjoy this movie. I say this because throughout the film Molly has a very trying and spooky go of it. In the end however, she seems to be very happy. Can we surmise that she in now a little Devil herself?! I bet you can also figure the answer to that question.
I must confess that this wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. Please don’t get me wrong, it really wasn’t that good. There were a few scares mostly resulting from loud noises and animals getting thrown at the characters. Relax, I understand that no animals were hurt during the making of this film!
Oh well, go see it at your own risk but remember that Fatwayne warned you to stay away.
Rated – PG 13
