The Blind Side
Goose bumps! Tears! Kick your ass attitude! Humanity personified! This movie has it all. Sandra Bullock does a beautiful job (both literally and figuratively). She with the blond coiffure and sassy demeanor is a sight for the eyes! Just watch her as she has her way with her husband and the high school coach without either of them realizing that they were being had!
This is a story of compassion depicting a caring family of wealth who had no reason to help a poor, neglected homeless mountain of a young man by the name of Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron). This is also a story based on actual events involving the Touhy family and down and out/soon to become pro football player, Michael Oher.
I found that the main character of this film, Michael Oher was both convincing and endearing. His development and acceptance into the Tuohy family was heartwarming and a lesson that we can all benefit from. With two outstanding personalities such as Leigh Anne Tuohy (Bullock) and Michael Oher, you would not expect there to be room for another actor to shine through. Wrong!
Enter S. J. Touhy (Jae Head) all 3’8″ and 38 pounds of him! What a hoot to see this smart little man take the giant, Oher, into his charge and “educate” him into the ways of the sport of football. It is also greatly amusing to see little S.J. influence college coaches of the statue of Nick Saban, Lou Holtz, Tommy Tuberville and Houston Nutt who all want to recruit his “brother” Big Mike.
We see how Big Mike is on his butt with nowhere to go and no one to care for him as the child that he is. Along comes Leigh Anne Touhy with her big heart and caring family and all of a sudden his (Mike’s) life is changed. With the loving care of a family who takes him in as one of their own and administers the caring love and guidance that is required to rear a child properly, Michael thrives and goes on to become a great person and a super star football player who excelled at Ole Miss and was drafted in the first round of the NFL by the Baltimore Ravens.
It is fulfilling to see that a loving family would and could save such a diverse person from a life of crime and sorrow. I am not saying that Michael Oher would have gone down that path but with little choice and the influences of his peers it would not be hard to visualize. This is a story that tugs at your heart strings. It relates one individuals quest to better himself and the wonderful family who gave him their love and acceptance.
This is a great holiday movie that I heartily recommend to you.
