Taken

TakenI suppose if you are going to take something or someone it might serve your interests to know a little about your victims. In this case the ruthless band of Albanian ‘dumb dumbs’ either don’t care or are too stupid and ruthless to give a damn. Perhaps it is just the thought of all that money they make by kidnapping young women and selling them as sex slaves.

In my view you have to first set up the villains as truly evil people in order to enjoy the mayhem that is about to befall them. The story does a very good job of making us REALLY want to see justice done. And let me tell you that I did, in fact, enjoy seeing each of them get their due!

The kidnappers make a very big mistake when they take the young daughter of Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) who just happens to be a retired CIA ‘Preventer’ which is another name for an agent who stops bad things form occurring.

To give you an idea of just how big a mistake the bad guys make I think it would be appropriate for me to give you a quote of what Bryan tells one of them upon realizing what has gone down. “I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a particular set of skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you. I will find you, and I will kill you”.

Well, that works for me! Of course it doesn’t faze our bone headed Albanians baddies. As expected, Bryan takes off in pursuit of his daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace). We follow him as he gets closer and closer to his daughter’s abductors using all of his skills and contacts acquired over his career. Of course each clue puts him in touch with yet another evil doer who he has little trouble dispatching.

Neeson, at the age of 56, does a creditable job with all of the physical stunts he must perform. I found him very convincing and athletic thus fun to watch.

There is much more to the plot and the many characters who fill in the story making it very entertaining. If you are looking for action (think Transporter) then this film will not disappoint you.
