At the Movies with Fatwayne

I guess that I am still a teenager at heart. Unfortunately, I am probably at about that stage mentally also! One thing for sure is that Sex Drive is one ridiculous movie. Ridiculous and very funny. In fact, I laughed throughout the entire film. And guess what? I wasn’t the only one laughing even though it was a matinee and sparsely attended. There were yuks all around me coming from this mostly adult audience.

This is all about what most teenage boys worry about – “getting laid.” Josh Zuckerman plays Ethan, a shy eighteen-year-old who poses as a macho football player online in order to set himself up with a hottie and hopefully lose his virginity. His best male friend is Lance (Clark Duke) who seems to have his romantic life in order (if you know what I mean). Lance is the driving force behind Ethan and his quest for love. Rounding out the three amigos is Amanda Crew as Felicia. She is Ethan’s best female friend and thus out of the chase (so to speak).

These three wind up on a road trip to meet up with Ethan’s gal pal from the internet. The boys get stuck with Felicia at the last moment and tell her that they are going to visit Grandma. One more character of note is Rex (James Marsden) who is Ethan’s brother from hell. Rex has a GTO which is crucial to the gang’s plan to hit the road. Marsden does a great job playing the obnoxious older sibling.

The fun of the movie is watching this road trip unfold with all of the ridiculousness (there is that word again) and creative sight gags popping up continuously. Folks, it just doesn’t stop. Just wait until you see the Amish. Seth Green plays Ezekial, a wise cracking but good natured Amish man who is worth the price of admission just by himself. This is very funny stuff.

Some might say that this movie is gross. I couldn’t argue with them. Some might say that there is nudity and suggestive subject matter. I wouldn’t argue with that either. But if you are not easily offended, I would give you the “go ahead” to check this “ridiculous” (yeah, I know) movie out. I still chuckle to myself when I think of that doughnut outfit. You’ve gotta see this.
