Scream 4
Look, I do not enjoy movies that depict people being graphically and brutally slashed and stabbed to death in great detail. So you may ask why did you go to see a Scream movie, goofball? I went for the humor – simple as that. I know that this is a slasher/horror film but I also assumed that it would be a take off of the previous installments. After all, who would make four Scream movies and take themselves seriously (Wes Craven – that’s who)?!
I will say this, if they had left out the extreme nature of the violence I would be recommending this flick to you right now. You can have killings but just not so “in your face”. There were many funny moments as evidenced by the nervous laughter coming from the audience. I can’t imagine more dumb blonds in one place than on that screen. One fetching beauty tells Ghostface over the telephone that she’s not stupid and that she has an IQ of 135. That’s about 2 seconds before she becomes dead meat.
The ensemble cast includes some familiar faces from the last version such as Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Neve Campbell and Hayden Panettiere. It is now fifteen years later and the anniversary of the last set of slayings. Sure enough, four students attending high school in Woodsboro are found brutally murdered. About this time Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) returns to town to promote her new book. Planted evidence causes Sheriff “Dewey” (David Arquette) to require her to remain in town pending further investigation. Dewey in now married to Gale (Courtney Cox) who has writer’s block and wants in on the murder investigation. In the interim, Ghostface is running around with seeming impunity slicing and dicing whomever he pleases.
There are twists to be sure and the movie seems to go on beyond what you would expect but luckily the one liners keep on coming. One of them involves a deputy who the audience knows has just been killed. She gets up to reveal her protective vest and states “wear the vest and protect the chest!”. If you like that kind of humor and can stand the blood and gore you might enjoy Scream 4 (you might).
