RocknRolla
RocknRolla, what is this? A story about Elvis and his boys? Perhaps a tale of the English invasion of the 60′s? No, the English do not invade us in this film but, in a way, we invade them. Well maybe not us as a people but our mud bugs or crawfish (take your pick depending on where you live in the U. S. of A.) do a very good job of taking over their ecosystem. Actually, the crawfish element has to do with making people talk when they are reluctant to do so. That and a couple of minutes under water! I had to chuckle at one poor bloak who was raised from the water with mud bugs hanging all over his shirt. As if!
To quote the strong right arm of London’s top “old school” mobster Lenny Cole (Tom Wilkinson), namely Archie (Mark Strong) “People ask the question…what’s a RocknRolla? And I tell ‘em — it’s not about drugs, drums and hospital drips, oh no. There’s more than that my friend. We all like a bit of the good life — some the money, some the drugs, others the sex game, the glamour or the fame. But a RocknRolla, oh, he’s different. Why? Because a real RocknRolla wants the fucking lot.” Sorry for the graphic language but, hey, it is a quote.
So what we have hereĀ are various hoods and thugs trying their best to cheat and steal from each other. We even have the Russian mob in the mix. There are so many characters that the story line becomes somewhat blurred but it really doesn’t matter since there is action and humor (British style) enough to keep us entertained. Additionally, we have beautiful women, handsome men, gay men, geeks, the aforementioned hoods all interacting in the film’s mirth and mayhem. All in all, it makes for an enjoyable viewing experience.
