Quantum of Solace
Let’s get this out of the way right now! Who is the best James Bond? I have always thought that Sean Connery was the ultimate Bond. Now that Daniel Craig is on the scene, I may have to rethink my position. Craig is more physically realistic and not as “pretty” as Connery. In short, he is what I would imagine the real James Bond would look like.
This movie takes off from the ending of Casino Royale where Bond’s love interest (Vesper) dies. Bond is determined to avenge her death at all costs even if it means going rogue. The problem arises from the fact that not everyone viewed Casino Royale and this leads to confusion on their part since there are repeated references to events that transpired in the previous film. This happened to one of the individuals in my group attending the movie with me.
One thing noticeable in this new Bond adventure is that there are no super spy gadgets, no memorable villains and no girls with double entendres for names. Even this new Bond’s drink is different as well as the fact that he never uttered his famous “Bond, James Bond.” I even wondered at the start of the film what had happened to the pistol with the red blood coloring the bore as James jumps into his shooting position and lets one fly. No need to worry here if you stick around just before the credits air. What a relief!
As with most Bond movies, the time seems to just zip by. This proved to be the case this time since the movie is only one hour and thirty-six minutes long. This is almost forty minutes shorter that Casino Royale. I found myself wanting more andĀ not gettingĀ it.
If you agree with me that Daniel Craig makes a good 007, I have good news for you. He has signed up for two more JB movies. I can hardly wait since I have always been a fan of the Bond movies and have read all of the books written by his creator, Ian Fleming. Go see this one and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
