Punisher: War Zone

The first thing that comes to mind after viewing this film is that it should have been rated “RG” instead of “R.” You know, “RG” for REALLY GORY! I must admit that it probably took a lot of imagination to think of all the ways the baddies were dispatched. Not only that, there was a lot of “dispatching” done in this blood fest.

The Punisher/Frank Castle is played by Ray Stevenson who, along with his wife and kids, had the misfortune to witness a mob killing. Of course the mob must make things right and so they kill Frank’s family while on a picnic. Miraculously, Frank survives. Unfortunately, that can not be said of his psyche, since he then decides to “punish” all evil doers. And punish them he does!

His chief adversaries are Billy Russoti/Jigsaw and his charming brother Loony Bin Jim. Jigsaw decided to rename himself after the Punisher tossed him into a glass crushing machine, the aftermath of which left him severely disfigured. As for his brother, he was rescued from a mental facility where he most certainly belonged. Loony Bin Jim makes a very good case for not dropping your kid on his head! Anyway these two wackos raise a small army to do away with Frank.

This is all you really need to know about this movie since the dialogue is almost nonexistent and what little there is, is nonsensical. All the rest is bloody mayhem a la the video game and comic book from which it was spawned.

I am not in the mood to waste any more words or time on this cinematic failure. I hope that I am forgiven by my readers since I really don’t want to suffer any more “punishment” from this dismal offering!
