Obsessed

This is pretty much a Fatal Attraction ripoff. Instead of a stellar cast led by Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer we have Idris Elba, Ali Larter and Beyonce Knowles. Don’t get me wrong on this, since I believe that these actors did an admirable job with what they were given. The trouble is that they weren’t given very much original material to work with.

One major difference between these two movies is that Derek Charles (Elba) is innocent of any wrongdoing, not that anyone believes him given the all but irresistible looks of Lisa (Ali Larter). In the past he was somewhat a ladies man and now he is having trouble convincing his wife, Sharon (Beyonce) of his loyalty.

Derek is a successful asset manager who has just earned a promotion to vice president with his firm. He is happily married and has a young son he adores. One day a temporary employee (Lisa) shows up at the office and immediately begins to stalk and seduce Derek. At first Derek thinks that she is just being friendly and a little flirtatious but soon comes to realize that she is a troubled woman who will settle for nothing short of making him her own at any cost.

Derek tries to reason with Lisa and resist her sexual advances but to no avail. She follows him around, sends him gifts and provocative emails and finally invades his home and endangers his son in the process.

There are many differences between this film and Attraction which makes it more than just a blatant ripoff. Many of the “surprises” were telegraphed well ahead of their arrival but it still managed to hold my interest. All in all, I found it entertaining which is about all you can ask a movie to be.
