Knowing

Wow! What a movie! I’m telling you that this is a real nail biter and thriller! Special effects out of the yahoo and the story is great.

I’ve read other reviewers who disagree with me but I have to figure that they have their noses up their butts! Nicolas Cage is terrific as the professor and father who discovers a terrifying revelation from a time capsule buried 50 years ago.

Here is the story line. Present day Kaleb who is attending the school that buried the time capsule  is presented with one of the envelopes buried so many years ago. All of the other messages from the past contained drawings of what the students imagined the future to be like. Kaleb received a page of random numbers which were seemingly senseless. Kaleb’s father, John Koestler (Nicolas Cage) is a professor and astrophysicist who eventually connects the numbers with dates, locations and death tolls of tragedies which have occurred over the past 50 years and will continue into the near future.

Desperately trying to put the pieces of this puzzle together he comes across as a loony to those he tries to convince. He senses that his son is somehow involved in this conundrum which is further complicated by the appearance of the mysterious “whisper people”.

On his journey of discovery, John is a first hand witness to several predicted catastrophes. The depiction of these events on screen is one area in which this film excels. There are two specific instances that I can relate that will not give away too much of the story. There is a plane crash and a subway accident that are created on the screen in an unbelievable fashion. They are so well crafted that you can imagine that you are there witnessing the real thing. Awesome is the only word to describe these scenes. They alone are worth the price of admission!

Eventually John discovers the truth of the prophesy. It falls upon him to save the world from destruction. If you want to know how things turn out, don’t look here for the answer. Oh, and one other thing, don’t assume that you can accurately guess the outcome. Not all things turn out like we would like!
