Inkheart
I’ve just got to tell you that I am most grateful that I am not a ‘silvertongue’”. This comes after viewing the movie Inkheart. You see a ‘silvertongue’ is someone who can read a book aloud and make it come alive! It also seems that if a character from the book does indeed come to life then someone who is actually living must, in turn, go into the world of the book. If you have this talent, it goes without saying that you had better be very careful.
Our main ‘silvertongue’ is Mo Folchart (Brendan Fraser) who while reading the book Inkheart to his wife, Resa (Sienna Guillory) and their baby daughter, Meggie (Eliza Bennett) unleashes a band of baddies into the world and at the same time looses his wife to the book. Somehow in all of the confusion, Mo’s copy of the book vanishes.
Mo packs his bags and along with Meggie goes on a quest to find another copy of this book so that he can ‘read’ his wife back to him and at the same time banish the evildoers back to their world.
His search takes him all over the globe and we are treated to some breathtaking scenery along the way. We also meet some rather strange creatures and characters as we accompany Mo and Meggie on their quest.
There is another problem being a ‘silvertongue’ in that the villains from the book want him for their own nefarious purposes. The chief villain is Capricon (Andy Serkis) who wants Mo to ‘read’ him riches and bring to this world a very nasty entity called Shadow. So in addition to trying to find the book our heroes must avoid capture and enslavement. Several other characters join our father/daughter team along the way and do their part to make the story fuller and more interesting.
From the above, you can gather that this movie is a fantasy and, as such, you never get the feeling that our heroes are in any real danger. There are also some holes in the plot that detract a bit from the story. The special effects are good and, as previously mentioned, the locations shots are grand. So what we have here is an enjoyable yarn that does a good job of entertaining.
