Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
This 6th installment of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series does not disappoint. Harry and the gang are back at Hogwarts for yet another year. Harry is getting taller and starting to sprout facial hairs. Ron Weasley is becoming broad in the shoulders and Hermione Granger is showing curves in all the right places. It has been fun to watch the kids as they grow and mature.
There is a new Professor on the Hogwarts staff. Actually he was on the staff previously and is talked into returning by Prof. Dumbledore. His name is Horace Slughorn and Dumbledore wants him back because he believes that Slughorn has some knowledge about Tom Riddle (Valdemort) hidden away in his memories.
Meanwhile, Harry finds an old textbook belonging to the mysterious Half-Blood Prince who has written advice on potions and spells all over the margins thus greatly aiding Harry in his classes on potions. He is even able to garner a few new spells to aid him courtesy of the Prince.
Albus Dumbledore enlists Harry’s help in finding the dark secrets in Tom Riddle’s past that they hope will aid them in ultimately defeating Voldemort whose power is once again on the rise. Harry proves to be invaluable to the Professor as they search for “he whose name must not be spoken’s” horcruxes which are dangerously protected as you might expect.
Draco Malfoy is back in school also and acting suspicious as well as evil. Harry is determined to discover just what he is up to as he sneaks around Hogwarts. Is he now aiding Voldemort and his Deatheaters?
Even as all of this intrigue is brewing, so is love! It starts to sound like a soap opera as Ron Weasley is completely unaware of Hermione Granger’s interest in him and has his hands full as pushy Lavender Brown throws herself all over him much to Heremione’s chagrin. Harry is interested in his best friend Ron’s sister, Ginny Weasley, but is afraid of Ron’s disaproval. How will all of these raging harmones sort themselves out? Stay tuned!
Deatheaters are on the prowl again and up to their typical evil doings. Bellatrix Lestrange is flitting about and howling like a banshee as she destroys buildings and people. Even muggles are at risk this time out!
The battle between the forces of good and evil make for a grand finale and if you haven’t read the book, you may be in for a big surprise.
This film delivers the goods! We are again transported into a magical world where anything can happen. The surroundings are both beautiful and mystical and lend a very special quality to this movie. I would call it a “must see” and one of the best movies of the year to date.
