Diary of a Wimpy Kid

This is a wonderful and funny movie that should transport all of us back to those wacky and sometimes painful years of middle school. Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) is charming as the 11 year old who is looking forward to this adventure with a bit of trepidation. His older brother and nemesis is betting he won’t last a day since he is such a wimp. Greg has other plans and develops a series of can’t fail schemes that are sure to catapult him to the top of the school’s most popular list.

Well you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men! It seems that everything is going wrong for Greg who is the cool  one (in his own mind) while his good friend Rowley Jefferson (Robert Capron) is the nerdy and immature one seems to be getting all of the attention. There are all sorts of adventures and sight gags to keep us amused. Most of the jokes are juvenile in nature but I had to laugh anyway.

It is a period of learning about life and what is right or wrong and living up to one’s responsibilities. Greg makes a lot of mistakes but ultimately learns his lessons and becomes a better person for his troubles.

If you go get ready for the usual wedgies, pee fights, swirlies and a piece of cheese on the playground cement that you do not want to touch at any cost since you will inherit the dreaded ‘cheese touch’. This film is mild enough for the whole family and one that will entertain everyone.
