At the Movies with Fatwayne

Do you want to get scared at the movies? If your answer is “yes” then you would do good to skip this one. On the other hand, if you would like to enjoy an entertaining mystery/thriller this might just be your cup of tea. By now everyone knows the premise of the film – several people are trapped in an elevator and perhaps one of them is the Devil who is up to his usual mischief. Will they all perish or will some manage to survive the experience? Therein lies the mystery and what happens to our unlucky passengers provides the thrills.

This movie was adapted from a story written by M. Night Shyamalan. You remember him, don’t you. He wrote the Sixth Sense ( ’99), Unbreakable (’02), Signs (’02), The Village (04), Lady in the Water (’06),  The Happening (’08) and others. My problem with Mr. Shyamalan is that I find his endings somewhat unsatisfying. The premise of his stories (hence, his movies) are titillating to say the least but they just fail to deliver at the end. I am pleased to report the in this case things wrap up quite neatly and you leave the theater feeling that you just viewed a good movie.
