At the Movies with Fatwayne

My, oh my! Sacha Baron Cohen has done it again. If you thought he alienated people with Borat, just you wait! This time out he is an unapologetic gay man out to make a name for himself in the world of show business. It isn’t so much that he is gay as the fact that he flaunts himself and introduces us to his weird (at least to a straight guy) sexual practices!

He is supposed to be a 19 year old Austrian fashionista who is the host of the popular show “Funkyzeit mit Brüno” (Funkytime with Brüno) who comes onto hard times after he crashes the Milan fashion show in a custom made velcro suit. Needless to say, his appearance is a disaster, especially when he crashed onto the runway all wrapped up in everything that will cling to his velcro suit!

Bruno and his buddy are funny in their attempt to conquer the USA and become the biggest gay star in our history. He imposes himself on ex-predsidential candidate Ron Paul, American Idol’s Paula Abdul and various other red neck hunters, religious gay busters and people of professions that I didn’t even know existed (read anal bleachers – whatever that means!)! He uses Mexican laborers as furniture and serving tables.

Nudity, did I mention nudity yet? This movie is chock full of full frontal male nudity and an awful lot of the rear view also! The film has got to be just under the line from getting an NC17 rating. If you ever wondered about the gay lifestyle and what goes on behind closed doors, you need not wonder any longer! Bruno proudly displays just about every imaginable sex act that two men can possibly engage in.

Yes, it is done with a flair for humor but it is harsh nonetheless. Throughout the film there are gulible people who will do anything to get themselves and their children into the limelight. It is hard to believe that these folks exist and even harder to appreciate how far they will go to get their child in a movie! Of course this is all a set up by Bruno (Cohen) but it is sad to see parents selling out their children’s safety and dignity.

One last thing, I would love to know how Cohen ensures his safety while pulling off his schtick. From an intrusion into the tent of a redneck hunter to the “gay mating” in a caged Texas all man fight event. It is a wonder that he is still alive!

Funny, yes! Offensive to some, yes! For everyone, no! You buy your ticket, you take your chance!
