Armored

You would think people would learn that there is no real profit from crime. Sure, you might benefit from stolen cash, etc. but your very being is diminished in so many other ways, not to mention prison or possible death. I suppose that $42,000,000 is a might tempting to some and that is what this film is about. One security crew working for the Eagle Shield Armored Truck Company decides that they are clever enough to pull off a heist in which no one will get hurt and they will never get caught. It is a simple little plan that can’t go awry. I wish that I had met these guys earlier because I’d like to sell them “some ocean front property in Arizona”!

Well, things go wrong, terribly wrong! Once the line is crossed, you just can’t go back. The caper becomes more and more involved as the guys are forced to make life and death decisions in order to remain free and realize their dreams of fortune. Mike Cochrone (Matt Dillon) is the group’s leader and mastermind. He also has his hands full with Baines (Laurence Fishburne) and Palmer (Amaury Nolasco) who are indifferent to his plan that involved no one getting hurt. Another member of the group is Ty Hackett (Columbus Short), a decorated war veteran and the caretaker of his younger and troubled brother. Ty is about to loose his house to the bank (yes, the very same one that they rob) and this is his reason to finally join in this crime. He is insistent that no one is injured and makes this known several times to Mike.

You know that even the best laid plans of mice and men can and often do go wrong! As the guys are stashing the money in an old factory, a vagrant sees them. Baines shoots him as he tries to escape but only wounds the man. Ty is infuriated that someone got hurt and tries to help the man to safety only to have Mike shoot him again, killing him. Okay, so now you get the big picture. As I said, once the line is crossed there is no going back. Ty has had enough and locks himself into one of the armored trucks intending to return whatever money is left in it. Things just go from bad to worse as a policeman happens upon the scene. As Mike tries to make the officer think that all is fine, Baines shoots the sheriff seriously wounding him. Ty distracts his ex buddies by setting some of the already stashed money on fire. This allows him to grab the sheriff and assist him into the truck he had just left.

Just when you would think that life could not get any worse, it does! As time begins to run out, tempers flare and betrayals occur leading to more murder and mayhem. It is sad to see a group of men who had been friends turn against each other. It was also disturbing to see law abiding citizens sink to the depths of depravity becoming thieves and murderers.

The movie was not that good and if you saw the previews, you know most of what was going to happen. The ending was less than believable and did not make much sense time wise. It wasn’t a total waste of time but I would be hard pressed to recommend it.
