An American Carol

What can I say?  I went to this movie expecting to laugh out loud and all that I could manage was a few chuckles.  I reasoned that if director David Zucker had me howling during his work on Airplane and the Naked Gun, how could I go wrong?  Especially considering all of the guest stars and cameo appearances such as Dennis Hopper, Kelsey Grammar, Jon Voight, James Woods, Leslie Neilsen and starring Kevin Farley (as in the Farley Brothers).  I had a complete feeling of deja vu.  There was nothing new here to get excited about although it did have a creative moment or two.

The movie is a spoof of the Michael Moore films and in this case, nothing is sacred.  There are terrorist who all share the same name, liberal college professors, hippies, right wingers and of course those tilted way over to the left.  Religion got its share of ribbing with the terrorist Catholic priest and their deadly “switch blade” crosses which made effective clubs when hijacking an airliner.  As I mentioned earlier, some of the scenes were funny but so many were “groaners” that the overall effect was less than pleasing.

I don’t recall any graphic language which in my opinion is a good thing.  I also did not recall any nudity.  I could have used some female nudity to keep my attention focused.  All in all, I should have stayed home!
