At the Movies with Fatwayne

Hawaii – just about everyone would agree that a trip there would indeed be a perfect getaway. In this respect the movie does not disappoint. The mountains, sea and lush valleys are all beautifully photographed for our enjoyment. There are many startlingly beautiful places in the world and this has to be among the best.

Also not disappointing is the plot and acting being offered up. I always enjoy movies with Milla Jovovich starring in them so I was already off to a good start!

Cliff (Steve Zahn) and Cydney (Jovovich) are newlyweds honeymooning in Hawaii and being an adventurous couple decide to backpack to a beautiful and remote beach that requires an eleven mile hike to reach it. They stumble upon a group of women who inform them that the parents of one of their members is urging them to return home after hearing about a highly publicised and brutal murder of another young couple who were also honeymooning on the island. 

Along the way they come across other couples who are going to the same secluded beach. Not sure whether to chance continuing or go back, Cliff and Cydney ultimately decide to press on. As the hike continues, things begin to go horrifyingly wrong. No one in the group knows who to trust but they are certain of one thing, that the murderer is among them!

The plot presents some degree of misdirection to purposefully keep us guessing. This only adds to the fun and just when you think you have it all neatly figured out, something smacks you in the face and you have to go refigure!

The other couples who populate this movie are Nick (Timothy Olyphant) and Gina (Kiele Sanchez) as well as Kale (Chris Hemsworth) and Cleo (Marley Shelton). They all do a fine job of acting and making us believe in their characters.

There are several intense and somewhat gory scenes so be prepared for this. It turns out to be a very suspenseful adult movie.
