12 Rounds
The best part of this movie for me was the setting. It was filmed in New Orleans and did a great job of showcasing the city’s attributes. If you are a native of ”New Awlins” or a frequent visitor you will enjoy the many scenes that will afford you memories of this beautiful town. I am talking about neighborhoods and vistas that you have not seen in the host of other films that have N.O. as their locale.
The next best part of the movie was the action scenes including a run away street car. There were times when I found myself holding my breath while waiting to see what would happen next. I did find several scenes shot with a handheld camera to be annoying. That and the fact that there were too many closeup shots.
An international Irish terrorist named Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen) is thwarted during a big heist by NOPD Det. Danny Fisher (pro wrestler John Cena). During Miles arrest, his accomplice and girl friend is accidentally killed. Miles blames Danny for this unfortunate event and swears revenge.
About a year later, Miles somehow manages to escape prison (remember he is somewhat of a genius). He returns to New Orleans to settle the score with Danny Fisher. He does this by abducting Danny’s girlfriend, Molly Porter (Ashley Scott) and blowing up their house. That’s just for starters as he puts Danny through 12 rounds of seemingly impossible tasks to complete if he ever expects to see Molly alive again. Miles says to Danny “it’s our anniversary. One year ago today whether by dumb luck or uncompromising skill, you busted me and, as such, today we will have our rematch.”
And do they ever have a rematch! Chases, crashes and explosions abound in this film. There is death by elevator, guns, bombs, knives, helicopter and even street car! If you like action with little character development or meaningful dialogue, this is your movie.
